Masterframe sash windows are perfect for period properties, offering a timeless and classic look whilst still being modern. They can only be installed by ‘master installers’, and their elegance and style truly add to the overall look and feel of a home. Here at Collingtons, we have three main ranges of sash windows within our Bygone collection, each one bringing something different to your exterior.
Harmony collection
This collection of sash windows has a beautiful wood-grained, textured acrylic foil on all profiles with a deep bottom rail, continuous run-through horns and exclusive Timberweld construction. Harmony has 24mm sealed units filled with argon gas so although your windows won’t have a deep bar, they will still interlock to form a grille that is firmly attached to the glass surface. The bar ends are clamped in place using patented, stainless steel Georgi clips while externally chamfered sashes and bars provide the traditional putty glazed appearance. These sash windows offer Victorian elegance with their beautiful authentic features; when horns became fashionable during the Victorian period, they were made with vertical mortice and tenoned joints, just like the Bygone Harmony sash collection.
You can be certain that your windows have an authentic sash window appearance because when touched, most cannot believe that the highly defined grain isn’t wood. While the standard offering is white foil, cream-coloured foil is also available so you have a choice of colours when it comes to your windows. If you require something a little more special, why not consider the contrast of black frames with white sashes? Alternatively, choose from RAL coloured paint; the world is your oyster when it comes to windows.
Every Bygone Harmony sash window is fitted with a single or pair of solid stainless-steel cam catches and face-fixed keeps. For better security, a pair of left and right hand cams will centralise large sashes within the frame and unlike clumsy surface-mounted devices which are fiddly to use, these windows have a pair of recessed limit stops. These are silky smooth and do not protrude from the surface of the sash until open. The Harmony collection combines authentic style with variety so you can customise them and truly make your sash windows a cohesive part of your home.
Symphony collection
Just like the Harmony collection, the Symphony collection offers a wood-grained textured acrylic foil on all profiles while every corner has a traditional, vertical and sealed construction for the perfect appearance. The Bygone Symphony collection succeeds when only the very best will do and has virtually every optional extra fitted as standard. Its clawed cam catches mean Symphony is fully secured by design and is the preferred specification for sash windows. In fact, it is already acknowledged as the most authentic timber alternative on the market, with unique and beautiful features enhancing the product in a way that makes those who see it, even close up, think it’s real.
The glass is also extremely functional; its ground-breaking insulation not only delivers amazing energy performance but combines impressive soundproofing with unseen durability. This means it can insulate your home just as well as triple glass but is lighter and thinner with the aesthetics of single glazing. The Symphony collection also has sealed units filled with Krypton gas which performs far better in narrower units than the common chunky double-glazed units, ultimately allowing the internal aesthetic of the window to have deep astragal bars and glazing beads. This collection is the pinnacle of functional, high-quality windows, designed to look just as eye-catching as the property it protects.
Melody collection
The Melody collection has identical frame and sash profiles to those found on Symphony and Harmony products, including the beautiful wood-grained foil. It is the perfect option if you have a slightly lower budget but still appreciate quality. While Melody has mitred corner joints, the run-through horns and deep bottom rails are still made with vertical mortice and tenoned joints with the option to customise using any RAL colour. They are also A-rated as standard and filled with argon gas to allow internal Georgian bars and glazing beads, just like the Harmony collection. This is yet another option within our Bygone collection that offers unparalleled style, particularly to period properties in Cornwall that are seeking a timeless yet modern upgrade to their window sashes.
Timberweld technology
As mentioned previously, all of these window sash options within the Bygone collection utilise Timberweld technology. As a result of this innovation, Masterframe windows are the only sash window manufacturer that can promise you an authentic, wood effect joint, complete with perfectly sealed frames and corners that look just like original timber. This gives these collections the all-important advantage of providing a product that gives the impression it has been lovingly produced by a master craftsman, which translates into a beautiful and authentic look. Most butt joints in the market today are open-ended however, another advantage of Timberweld joints is that they are completely sealed from the elements with no open chambers. This protects your windows and home from rainwater, draughts, bugs and flies, while the style of the joints blends in seamlessly with all architectural styles, from Georgian to Victorian. They are also suitable for use in both conservation areas and in the most contemporary developments, a truly versatile and innovative product. Together, Bygone sash windows and the neutral material and PVC-U of Timberweld make the perfect pairing for your period property.
