We spoke to Matt at Collingtons, to see what a typical member of staff enjoys about this time of year and to find out about his Christmas traditions.
Festive Family Traditions: What are your family's favourite Christmas traditions that you look forward to every year?
Every Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember, my family and I go to the Meadery for tea on Christmas Eve. For many years, we’ve also loved doing a tour of the Christmas light displays throughout West Cornwall, stopping for fish and chips along the way is a must!
Local Highlights: Are there any specific local events or places in your area that you or your team love visiting during the festive season?
Trevena Cross Garden Centre is great for getting in the festive spirit, and I’m always sure to get my real Christmas Tree whilst there! Christmas Carol concerts are also particularly popular with my family.
Winter Activities: What winter activities do you and your family enjoy doing together, either at home or in the community?
As above, really! The Helston Christmas lights switch-on, is also great for getting into the festive spirit!
Christmas Decorations: How do you decorate your homes or your showroom for Christmas? Are there any particular themes or features you always include?
For myself and my family, it’s all about the real tree – it just makes the house smell like Christmas! We always decorate it with lots of personal baubles that have been collected throughout the years!
In the showroom, we always have to have a tree – it wouldn’t be Christmas without it! For the last couple of years, we’ve also had our windows decorated with festive artwork.
Favourite Festive Foods: What are some of your favourite festive foods or dishes that your family enjoys at this time of year?
For me, it’s all about a proper Christmas Day feast! We have to have a lovely joint of meat, which we change up each year, and the roast potatoes have to be perfect! My mum also loves baking, so she always makes lots of sweet treats to have for dessert and throughout the Christmas period. Christmas cake and mince pies are, of course, included!
Cornwall’s Magic: What do you think makes Cornwall special during the Christmas season? Do you have a favourite winter spot that captures the festive spirit?
One of the great things about Cornwall at Christmas is how many towns and villages have fantastic Christmas lights! Mousehole’s are particularly great and Helston’s are also fantastic!
Local Shopping and Support: Do you have a favourite local business or market you visit during Christmas for gifts or festive treats?
Already mentioned, but Trevena Cross Garden Centre really is great for all things Christmas, with a large selection of decorations, as well as real Christmas trees on sale!
Porthleven Christmas Market is also great, and I enjoy going to the late-night shopping in Truro.
Creating a Cosy Home: As a business focused on windows and conservatories, do you have any tips for making homes feel cosy and inviting during the holiday season?
I always feel like a well-decorated Christmas tree is key, it has to be a real one! My family tradition has always been to collect more personal baubles each year. Additionally, by installing A+-rated Collingtons windows, you can be assured that your property will be kept warm and cosy.
